Kate Griffin & Ford Collier

About

Griffin and Collier is the new folk duo from the creative voices behind the critically acclaimed global folk band Mishra. Known for their award winning  continent-crossing collaborations that include Indian classical and traditional music from Mozambique, Kate Griffin and Ford Collier now hone in on a more intimate exploration of their roots in the folk music of the British Isles and America.

The duo’s new music is rooted in their accomplished instrumental playing, with both musicians playing at the highest level of UK folk on their respective instruments. While Kate Griffin’s clawhammer banjo is at home within the earthy tones of old time Americana, she has consistently pushed the boundaries of her technique to allow a chameleon like flexibility of style, and Ford Collier has extensively absorbed the techniques of contemporary Irish low whistle pioneers such as Brian Finnegan and Michael McGoldrick. Kate adds to the mix stunning songs that draw from the same creative well, and the resulting sound shifts seamlessly from hypnotic banjo backed by driving guitar, to flowing whistle tunes drawn from Irish trad and intricately rearranged, creating a dynamic tapestry that traces the continuing journey of traditional music from the British Isles.

The duo’s sound took shape during a two-month tour of New Zealand in 2024, where they saw first hand how the traditional music they love has travelled across the world. After releasing a critically acclaimed collaboration album between Mishra and Indian vocalist Deepa Shakthi in 2025 (which Songlines Magazine described as a ‘profound and joyful fusion’), the pair will record and release their debut album in 2026, with a UK tour planned for May that year.
